At the ripe old age of 8, a gummy-mouthed girl with a shocking home-cut mullet declared to the world (or at least her composite Grade 2/3 class) that she wanted to be an actor. Fast forward a few decades, the artist formerly known as 'Mullet-Halia’ stayed true to her word: she is now a working actor and voice artist. You’ll be pleased to know she’s grown into her gums and grown out her hair.
Over the years, Mahalia has had roles on a wide range of network TV shows and films. Most recently, she appeared on Australia’s longest-running drama Neighbours as recurring role Cherie Reyner, which developed into a main character for the spin-off series Erinsborough High. Mahalia’s role in the recent film Trypophobia received critical acclaim, taking out the Best Actor award at multiple film festivals. Other credits include Utopia, Twentysomething, The Slap, Bed of Roses, Winners and Losers, The Wizards of AUS and Footballer Wants A Wife, as well as TVC’s for Sportsbet, Nintendo Wii, Bourbon Woodstock, Holden, and Honda, just to name a few. But we’re not done yet...
Mahalia’s unique vocal talents (husky and low? Shrill and whiny? British-Russian Zombie Spy? You name it, she’ll voice it) has made her an in-demand vocal artist, voicing over 30 characters across popular cartoons both in Australia and USA. Her voice has also starred in a huge array of radio and TV commercial campaigns such as Target, NAB, Liquorland, Foxtel, Jeep, Michael Hill Jeweller, The Australian Ballet, Work Safe, Linkt and many more.
With her fingers in many pies (ew), Mahalia‘s production experience extends to behind the camera, having worked as a runner in production and in casting. Mahalia is also sought after as a presenter and host, working the microphone at large events, roadshows, red carpets and more. Her acting and vocal talents, not to mention her quick sense of humour, have lead to opportunities around the world, multiple awards, and a strong reputation in the Australian entertainment industry.
Not bad for a kid with a mullet.
